BEIJING, Aug 6 (KUNA) -- The Kuwaiti delegation arrived here on Wednesday to participate in the 29th summer Olympic Games, which opens next Friday with most prominent sport stars competing.
The Kuwaiti mission, which arrived in Beijing amid a welcoming atmosphere, is headed by the delegation's Vice Chairman and General Secretary of the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Obeid Zayed Al-Enzi and eight players.
The players are Abdullah Al-Tirgi Al-Risheedi, Nasser Al-Muqled and Zaid Al-Mutairi for the shooting competitions, Ibrahim Al-Hasan for table tennis, Ali Al-Zankawi and Mohammad Al-Azmi for track and field, Talal Al-Enzi for judo and Mohammad Madouh for swimming.
The delegation also groups Kuwaiti Shooting Federation Vice Chairman Duaij Al-Otaibi, coaches, as well as administrative and media representatives.
Kuwait never stopped participating in the Olympics since Tokyo in 1964, followed by Mexico City 1968, Munich 1972, Montreal 1976, Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004.
Shooter Fheid Al-Daihani granted Kuwait its first Olympic medal, when he won third place and bronze medal in the 2000 summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia, the first of its kind in the history of Kuwaiti participations in the Games. (end) zz.hb KUNA 061923 Aug 08NNNN
